Ballinclare Fair: May/Bealtaine & October/Deireadh Fómhair

Details

Ballinclare horse fair in Annascaul is said to be the oldest sheep & horse fair in Ireland. It was originally held in the townland of that name, about a mile outside Annascaul Village, on 1 May and 4 October. In the nineteenth century the fair moved into the Main Street of the village, but retained its old name. By the 1950s the fair had died out, but was revived in 1998.

The fair now takes place on the first Sunday of May and the first Sunday of October.

As well as livestock there is plenty to entertain the visitor, including children's entertainment, a pet show, stalls selling merchandise and music in and around the local pubs. Live music in all pubs, the famous Mutton Pies, various sheep shows etc. People come from all over Ireland and gather to enjoy the atmosphere of the day and buy and sell animals.

Great fun for all the family.
