National Heritage Week on the Dingle Peninsula

The following events are being held in Corca Dhuibhne as part of National Heritage Week/ Seachtain Oidhreachta Naisiúnta:

Saturday August 17th- Ionad an Bhlascaod/The Blasket Centre 8.15pm. A unique and special concert to mark Heritage Week. Three generations of amazing singers and musicians, from Baile na bPoc to Melbourne and New York, performing songs and music in the classical, West Kerry and Australian traditions. Tickets from the Blasket Centre or John Benny's Pub, Dingle. 

Sunday August 18th- Community Care Center Annascaul 12pm-1.30pm.

History of our Native Honey Bees- Learn about the history of our native honey bees. Then we will be walking a short distance to see the two log hives and learning more about this natural home for our native honey bees.

Sunday August 18th & Sunday August 25th - 10am-5pm. Cead isteach SAOR IN AISCE/FREE ENTRY to Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh/Ballyferriter. 


Wednesday August 21st- Dingle Benner’s Hotel 10am-11.30am.

Unique Dingle Secret Stories Walking Tour. With a history dating back to the early 1800's, Dingle Benners Hotel is a fitting location to begin your tour. Your guide Kevin O'Shea will then take you on a walking tour of the town & share the secrets of our history. This is an easy walking tour around Dingle town and will take a little over an hour.

Wednesday August 21st - Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne 2.30pm-5pm. ‘Creating prehistory’. Find out how archaeologists understand Ireland’s deep prehistoric past. Handle prehistoric artefacts and see the latest tools of the trade. Normal museum entry charge applies.

Thursday August 22nd - 2.30pm-4pm. A short guided walk at Ferriter’s Cove (Cuan an Chaoil) learning how scientists discover and understand Ireland’s deep prehistoric past through examining the landscape. You’ll have the chance to handle prehistoric artefacts and see the latest equipment as well as a chance to create your own story based around your walk.

All ages welcome, but this event is not suitable for those with mobility issues. Please come prepared for rough ground and wild weather, and do bring a drink and a snack if you think you might get hungry. The nearest toilet facilities are 3km away in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh.


Friday August 23rd- An Díseart 10am-4.30pm.

Open Day in an Díseart- see the Harry Clarke Stained Glass windows and walk the labyrinth in its beautiful gardens.

Friday August 23rd - Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne 2pm-4pm.

‘Uirlisí ár Muintire’ (‘Past Times: Past Tools’) le Orla Breslin agus Cáit Uí Rinn (bilingual event). Bring out yer old tools! Open display and chat about vintage tools used in daily life. Beifear ag caint orthu agus ag taispeáint seanuirlisí tí agus feirme ón tseanré.  Come tell us your stories of your favourite hand tools, whether it's farming forks, handmade planes or bone hooks. Discussion also about candle making in bygone days. Normal museum entry charge applies. 

Friday August 23rd - Miltown Bridge Dingle 7-8pm.

History of Miltown River- A talk about the Milltown River from source to the sea; its use from farming to fishing; a look at flora/fauna and a discussion about what the community can do to protect it for future generations.


Saturday August 24th - Dingle Marina 10am-5pm.

Marine Survey Vessel Open Day- Visit a marine survey vessel that has been mapping the physical, chemical and biological features of the Irish seafloor. 


Saturday August 24th - Clogher Head, Slea Head 2-5pm.

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group invites you to their annual, free and guided land-based whale watch at a local headland, as part of All-Ireland Whale Watch day on Saturday 24th August 2019.
