Star Wars Ballyferriter Itinerary

In the small village of Ballyferriter, an epic event happened! In 2016 Lucas Film Ltd. arrived to start filming Episode VIII, The Last Jedi and continue the story of Luke and Rey on Ach-To. This headland called Ceann Sibeál was the perfect place to recreate the monastic settlement of Skellig Michael, featured at the end of Episode VII, The Force Awakens.

Home of stunning seascapes, islands and cliff backdrops, this part of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, on the Dingle Peninsula, has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries – a place of quiet contemplation, a connection with nature and the elements, a sanctuary worthy of a Jedi.

This part of Ireland is called a Gaeltacht, a stronghold of the ancient Irish Language, with a localised dialect. Its unique beauty and sounds and its famed Blasket Island literature will make your quest to visit this mystical part of Ireland, more magical and rewarding.

We have created a three day itinerary for you to enjoy, to get the most from your Star Wars trail of the Dingle Peninsula, to truly experience the force of nature, and the landscape that inspired LucasFilm Ltd to base the planet of Ach-To on.

Day 1

Guided Tour of the Ballyferriter, Dingle Peninsula Star Wars Story

Stay in the beautiful village of Baile an Fheirtéaraigh / Ballyferriter, ’the home of Star Wars’ and be taken on a magical tour of Slea Head, by a specialized local guide.

Stroll around Ballyferriter Village and see where Chewie visited the local school and enjoy the village that buzzed throughout the time that the Star Wars family were here.

Evening Day 1:

Enjoy the village life of Baile an Fheirtéaraigh / Ballyferriter village

Enjoy great Bar Food in the local hotels or pubs and hear the Irish language and local stories as you enjoy the atmosphere and character of village life in this westerly region

Listen to the tunes of local musicians and the stories of the past through local songs

Day 2

Immerse yourself in more Local Experiences

Immerse yourself in local experiences to relax and enjoy this landscape, once cited as “the most beautiful place on earth” by National Geographic.

Choose from Land based activities, Take to the waves, A Monastic & Archaeological Sites Tour, Pilgrimage Trails and Climbs or Wild Atlantic Way Signature & Discovery Points Trail.

Evening Day 2:

Experience a Dingle Peninsula Sunset at Ceann Sraithe / Clogher Head, Ballydavid or Slea Head (according to the time of year)


Eat locally or take in one of the exceptional restaurants in the area from Feohanagh to Ventry and Dingle (Ireland’s Foodie Town 2014) to Castlegregory


Find tonight’s traditional music session or join in a local Festival or Event that may be on while you are here……….

Day 3

Visit the Great Blasket Island

The Great Blasket Island is one of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way Signature Experiences (Easter to October weather permitting)

Enjoy a Dingle Peninsula Sunrise

Visit Ionad an Bhlascaoid Mhóir/ The Blasket Centre to learn about the island, its people, language, culture, traditions and literary accomplishments. (Stock up on picnic supplies before heading to the ferry)
Take the ferry from Dún Chaoin / Dunquin or Dingle pier to the Great Blasket and join the local guide there.

Visit some of the wonderful arts and crafts workshops close by, enjoy dinner or relax with a seaweed bath or massage in the local villages

Evening Day 3:

Learn a cúpla focail / learn a few words of Irish in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh / Ballyferriter village Enjoy another evening of village life and share your stories of the day.
Take in a local music session, hear the local stories or enjoy an evening of relaxation
