"The Rainbow Bridge"

Medieval Stone Bridge spanning the Garfinny river near Lispole.

Antiquities Listing No.4 on Map

This narrow stone bridge was built without the use of mortar and is one of the few medieval stone bridges still standing in Ireland. Spanning the Garfinny River it can be found on the old Dingle to Lispole road above the N86. The road now crosses Garfinny river using a new bridge but you can still access the medieval bridge and walk across.

Garfinny bridge has been declared a national monument of Ireland and has been restored recently by the Office of Public Works.

"Near the ruins of the church is a very narrow bridge over the small river Garfinagh, on the old road from Dingle to Tralee; from its high arched form it has been termed the Rainbow bridge, and is evidently of great antiquity. "
