Dining Out on the Dingle Peninsula

The specialities of the region are what attract the modern traveller, and none more so than the food and the cooking of the region.

This is why regional tourism is the tourism of the future, because it allows the visitor to truly understand and appreciate the complexity and inimitable character of a region.

The cooking of the region, and the chance to meet the people who prepare the food, allows the visitor to confront the culture intimately, in the most delicious way possible.

The South Pole Inn was so named by Antarctic explorer Tom Crean. Crean, who accompanied Scott and Shackleton on their expeditions, retired to his home village of Annascaul in 1920 and opened the inn.

The bar contains mementos of Crean's adventures and is a popular place to eat and drink for visitors and locals alike. The inn takes full advantage of its riverside setting with outdoor seating and a child-friendly environment.
