Mount Brandon Hillwalking and Music Festival

Photograph of Sás Creek by Pat Scanlon The festival caters to all levels of walkers with two difficult walks: Mount Brandon and Baile Dubh and two easy walks Sás Creek to Brandon Point and Sliabh Glas.

The walks offer the opportunity to explore the majestic beauty of the Mount Brandon range.

On the Saturday night we have up and coming band KeyWest headlining in the Cloghane marquee supported by local bands Comic Book Heroes from Tralee and Turf from Camp.
On the Sunday night we have Scullion headlining in the local community hall.

National Pilgrim Paths Day

National Pilgrim Paths Day is a new Easter Festival based on Ireland’s dense network of medieval pilgrim walking routes. This new heritage themed event is organised by the local communities adjacent to each of our principal penitential routes and is aimed at raising awareness of Ireland’s rich inheritance of pilgrim paths.

The pilgrim path to be walked is Cosán na Naomh and the walk begins in the car park near Ventry Beach at 10.30. The walk is approximately 11 miles, a guide will lead the group and it is likely to take approx 4 hours. Suitable terrain for families. Walkers should have appropriate footwear and waterproof gear and bring any snacks/drinks they require for the walk.

Féile Ealaine na Cásca

Is cuid de thraidisiún ealaíne Chorca Dhuibhne anois é Féile na Cásca, taispeántas ealaíne bliantúil a reachtáltar d'ealaíontóirí an cheantair.

Féile na Cásca, the annual Easter art exhibition organised by Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne. Each year, as well as pieces from adult artists, there is always a wonderful exhibition of work carried out by primary school students from all over the peninsula.

5th Annual Dingle Peninsula Cycling Challenge 2014

The 5th Dingle Peninsula Cycle Challenge is on Saturday 3rd May (Bank holiday weekend)
Two routes to choose from:
  • 125km/75 miles or
  • 56km/35 miles
This cycle is held annually as part of Féile na Bealtaine celebrations. Entry is only EUR 30 and funds raised goes to local charities A prize to the value of EUR 400 which is being sponsored by Benners Hotel Dingle and Tomás Garvey and is being raffled for those who register on line on or before 5th April. The prize incorporates two nights B&B for two people as well as an evening meal in Benner's Hotel Dingle.

Free T-shirt guaranteed for all who register on/before 5th April 2014
Entry fee includes a substantial feed!

All profits will be donated to charity.

Dingle Women's Mini Marathon

The second Dingle Women's Mini Marathon will be held on Saturday, May 17th 2014.

The event is being run on a 'not for profit' basis and the beneficiaries are The National Breast Cancer Research Institute and Dingle's Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne Secondary School for the development of a running track and sports pitch.

Dingle Way Challenge

The Dingle Way Challenge 2014 will take place on Sunday 1st June. This year the walk wil start in the village of Cloghane on the foothills of the famous Mount Brandon. From there you will walk 55km along some of the most stunning scenery in the world through Castlegregory and around the famous Maharees peninsula back to Blennerville where there will be a big party.

The event is being held in aid of St. Patrick's GAA Club, Blennerville and the World Sports Team charity.

Dingle Marine Festival

Photograph by Tony Godfrey feilenamara (8K) Féile na Mára will be a new four day festival which will encompass a vast array of maritime activities including eco-tours, trips to see Fungie, a bio-blitz celebrating the area's aquaculture and bio-diversity, sailing, rowing, sea-kayaking, activities in Dingle Oceanworld plus the revival of Dingle's sea-angling competition of yesteryear.

The following events are planned:
  • A National Sea Angling competition over two days
  • Open day with access to all marine leisure activities including sailing, kayaking and naomhog rowing
  • Marine Biodiversity blitz competitions for visitors and locals
  • Marine based Photography competition
  • Open day onboard an Irish Naval Vessel
  • Food Cookery Displays/Cook-offs/Catch & Cook
  • Reptile Day and Kidszone display at Oceanworld Aquarium
  • Boatyard display of tools, photographs etc., including a display of marine life saving equipment from past days
  • An artistic dance and visual arts production with a Maritime theme followed by sea-shanties – a collection of songs from the sea in both Irish and English
  • Business windows competition: best marine themed window
  • Seine netting display
  • Presence of the RNLI
  • Dolphin trips and Harbour tours
  • Trawler tour at the harbour
  • Marine themed fancy dress evening
  • Blessing of the Boats to close the Festival

The festival hopes to raise funds for the RNLI Lifeboat Service and Dingle Coast and Cliff Rescue.

Féile an Phráta

Féile an Phráta is an annual celebration of the humble potato and its vital role, historic and contemporary, in the lives of the West Kerry community.

Central to the festival is the annual Spud-off Mór - where a champion potato grower from across the Dingle Peninsula is chosen. The Spud-off Mór generates intense competition which reflects the pride of the growers in their ability to produce the perfect spud.

The festival also offers musical and educational events which reflect the local heritage.

Dingle's Global Rhythm Festival / Cuisle Chorca Dhuibhne 2014

The festival will feature an eclectic mix of rhythm styles and percussive performances. Samba, jazz, Afro-Cuban, reggae, traditional Irish and West African drum and dance grooves will be heard over the weekend. Local traditional marching bands and samba bands will parade through the town and there will be street performances and evening gigs to maintain the buzz throughout the weekend.

Brandon Bay Half Marathon and 10 Kilometre Run

Castlegregory Celtic FC and Castlegregory Community Council are organising a half marathon and 10k run to take place entirely on the golden sands of Brandon Bay.

The event takes place on Saturday July 12th as part of the Castlegregory Summer Festival and can be run, jogged or walked.

The event starts and finishes at Fahamore in the Maharees for both distances.

Dingle Half Marathon and 10KM Road Race

The inaugural Dingle Half Marathon and 10KM Road Race will be held on Saturday, July 19th 2014.

The event, which is endorsed by a number of leading athletes, will become a permanent fixture on the schedule as the allure of running one of the most scenic routes in Ireland encourages participation. Event organisers explained that the Runs are intended to cater for people of all levels of fitness with walkers, joggers and runners being encouraged to take part.
The event is being run on a 'not for profit' basis and the beneficiaries are Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin and Dingle GAA for New Club House Facilities.

A half, full and 50 mile ultra marathon around the spectacular Dingle peninsula. This is a ‘must do’ race guaranteeing a once in a life time experience. Dingle Marathon is famous for its breath taking scenery and beautiful rugged coastline. Over 17 miles of the route is on or next to the sea. Dingle Town comes alive this weekend with an incredible atmosphere and craic guaranteed all weekend.

The event, based at Dingle Marina Co. Kerry, sees swimmers share the open water swim section with one of our more famous residents, Fungie the dolphin.
This is followed by a challenging cycle route that takes riders on a loop around the spectacular Slea Head, before returning to transition at the marina for the final run section on quiet back roads to the finish line in Dingle town…
