Ceann Sibéal - Star Wars Film Location for 'The Last Jedi'
A Beehive Hut on The Dingle Peninsula
Ceann Sibéal - Where Star Wars Episode VIII filmed Ach-To
Ceann Sibeal is a well known scenic headland on the Dingle Peninsula in South West Ireland. It is also now the Star Wars Episode VIII location of the old Jedi temple where Luke begins Rey's training in the ways of the force. The rugged coastline and dramatic scenery set the scene as ocean world Ahch-To.
A collection of beehive-shaped huts was built to reproduce the beehive huts of Skellig Micheal. Construction workers built a road across local farmland to bring the trucks, scaffolding, lighting, trailers, food, props and people up to the closed set. Lucasfilm later thanked locals for their support and hospitality.
At the end of filming in Ballyferriter Chewbacca (or a costumed Joonas Suotamo who plays Chewbacca) paid a surprise visit to the local primary school and delighted the children who responded by playing the Star Wars signature tune on their tin whistles.
The road and set were removed completely after filming and the site is on private farmland. You can get spectacular views of this location from viewing points on the Slea Head Drive and from nearby walking trails. There are also boat tours and stand up Paddle board tours to the cliff face.
